Immerse Yourself in a Theta State

Our brainwaves are in constant motion, changing frequencies on a regular basis.

It’s important to note that there are five main frequencies we experience: delta (1-3 Hertz), theta (4-7 Hertz), alpha (8-12 Hertz), beta (13-30 Hertz), and gamma (30-100 Hertz).

This piece will focus on the healing abilities of theta brainwaves—all while showcasing the benefits of a theta state.

What Are Theta Brainwaves?

We’ve all experienced that blissful sensation of slowly drifting off to rest. We’re neither awake nor asleep, but somewhere in the middle, easy and carefree. We’re calm, content. The stressors of our daily lives can’t touch us here.

“Here” is a theta brainwave state, in the 4-7 Hertz frequency range (as noted above). Theta brainwaves lie on the cusp of the conscious and the subconscious. This is a dreamy, relaxed space, if you will—associated with creativity and tranquility.

How so? Some researchers believe theta brainwave activity, which occurs in the brain’s middle frontal lobe, allows us to pick up on nuances we might otherwise miss. It’s the gateway to our intuition, to the nooks and crannies of our mind.

Prevalent in mindfulness training, theta brainwaves generally occur during activities and therapeutic techniques like meditation and flow-work.

The Benefits of a Theta State

In addition to relaxation, a theta brainwave state can elevate your health and bring you closer to your subconscious. The benefits of reaching this state are vast and may include:

· Better immune health

· Reduced stress and anxiety

· Stronger problem-solving

· Increased healing after burnout

Overcoming mental blocks, and finding peace after minor illness or injury, are other common benefits of spending time in this state. No matter how you get there, theta can help bring serenity and clarity to your life.
